Lomi-Lomi is a traditional Hawaiian form of massage. 
It may remind you of other well-known techniques such as Rolfing, 
acupressure, reflexology, and even includes elements of hands-on 
healing techniques. If you are somewhat familiar with the subject you 
will think you recognise elements of Swedish massage, of the Esalen 
technique and even polarity. But despite these familiar elements 
Lomi-Lomi is something completely different.

Lomi-Lomi is a massage rite which used to be passed on only within certain families. While still young, one talented member of the family was chosen to learn all about Lomi-Lomi and to become an expert or “kahuna”. By oral and practical tradition several different versions of Lomi-Lomi developed over the years and generations. But they all share the basic principles: the joy of work, loving acceptance of the person who receives the massage, a deep relationship with all living things and a firm connection to the whole creation.
